Thanks every one. My daughter is a tiger. The Chinese have 12 animals. People don't count the years. They look for their animal to judge how old they are. My daughter has completed her first circle. It is a time for us to reflect on the year. We had a pretty rough year with house moves, school trouble for Jessie and a very young baby. That means lack of sleep. The Chinese new year here is really quiet for us comparing with Christmas. We hardly do anything apart from visiting our late parents' at the cemetery to invite their spirits to come home, having a good dinner and watch a movie together. In the morning we will send one member out to the garden from the back door, pick a fresh stem of leaves or flowers and bring it to the front door. That's the fresh start of the new year. Then we wait for guest to come. The trouble is the first guest is supposed to bring his/her luck into the house and that could be bad luck! My daughter loves Christmas and Chinese new year because she gets a bit of money from each visitor and gets to keep all the money. Many other kids lose all their money because their parents just strip all of it to compensate for the money they have to give out. I hope the tiger year will be a better year for us, not that we had too much to complain. The little boy has been exceptionally healthy and happy. Jessie overcame her school trouble and came up with the best ever performance across visual art, music and the academic. However as Jessie is becoming a teenager, we will face with the second test of parenting. That is one of the new challenges we will face this year, and we will definitely need some luck (: |
