Lovely list of roses. I am sure you will be absolutely delighted with them after you fix them up. It's still early in Spring so you have just a bit of time to help the roses before the heat arrives. I am no expert but for a person who has just bought a house and inherite neglected roses like you I would suggest an emergency course of action to make sure you won't miss out this Spring performance 1/ Do late fertilising program (better than none) but be conservative. I would suggest getting a big bag of Dynamic lifter about 20kg. getting rid of the weed and spread the pellets over them. I think 20Kg would be enough for the number of roses you have. Also soak about 1Kg in water overnight and use that as "liquid fertiliser" to water the roses for a faster kick in the buts. 2/ Put some mulch or bark on the ground to keep the moisture and water them well. Soak the ground once a week. Do not spray on the leaves! 3/ Clean up the bushes a bit. Too late for pruning. Just clean up some poor looking stems or those that are too tall and too leggy. 4/ For the green bug, shoot them with Rose Shield once (would be enough). My Rose spray list has come down to only 2 items: Rose shield and Triforine. I buy the concentrate and mix them myself and use a small household sprayer. Also spray Triforine as Blackspot fungus will attack early in Spring. However if you hate spraying chemicals, I would say you just hose the bugs off with a water jet. Then all you need to do is to join this forum and learn from many experienced people here. I ams ure you would have nice blooms to share with people in 4 weeks after the initial course of treatment. |
